BORN AND RAISED IN SINTRA I GREW UP SURROUNDED BY STRONG CHARACTERS, GOOD FRIENDS, AND FINE ARCHITECTURE
During the period of my academic training there were several aspects that I now believe gave me, in a sense, an “architectural character” with some peculiarities. Rather than a term of comparison, my aim is to highlight some points of my academic career that marked me deeply, both as a person and as an aspiring architect/designer.
Resulting from a strong anxiety to know the professional world of architecture, my first professional experience came relatively early. In the end of Year II I did an internship during 6 weeks in an architecture office in London - Bernard Stilwell Architects. It was an extremely enriching experience, to which I attach special value to the oppurtunity of having gained first hand knowledge about the architectural practice in another country.
The experience in Brazil, in the office of one of the most renown architects of this country - Gustavo Penna Arquiteto e Associados, was also a success as it allowed me to follow projects through all stages in a country where the construction is a fast growing business.
Besides a great curiosity and passion for the practice of architecture I always believed in the “total work of art”. The interior, furniture and product design, were some of the fields in which I have been investing, having participated in a furniture design course recently in the Lisbon School of Design.
All the knowledge that I had access at Instituto Superior Técnico, Lisbon School of Design, Politecnico di Milano and in the different work experiences had an extreme value and created the basis on which I guide myself, the continued exploration of the world of design through the incessant desire to know more is a big motivation for all of my learning.
