I don’t normally post other people’s stuff, but I’ve just watched this video showing the production of the Hiroshima Chair by Maruni Wood Industry which I found a really good example of good design together with a very intelligent production procedure and we shall not forget the beautifully edited video.

Throughout the last couple of months I have been very interested in industrial design and even got a commission to design three furniture pieces for a room. I now came to the conclusion that the small scale objects are as complex to design as a house or a building.

Have you ever wonder why some buildings in Amsterdam are tilted? I found the answer:

Many of these homes are converted warehouses where good would be hoisted to different floors. Those warehouses were built with a slight tilt to prevent the goods from damaging the building’s facade on the way up or down. That approach was copied in other buildings as well. However, some building tilt — whichever way — because the foundation has been damaged.

Pritzker 2014

So happy for this year’s Priztker. Shigeru Ban. I have always been a fan of him but above all, I have been developing a big interest in Japanese architecture since I started my academic education. Simplicity, sublimity and serenity.

Hope to visit Japan in a very close future.

One week in Milano for the Athens Course (Modern Interior Architecture Case Studies and Historiography).

Great people, amazing food and creativity. This is how I describe this incredible and underrated city.

The week was quite intensive, had many assignments for the Politecnico di Milano course and fortunately many friends to reencounter. The little group of 30 students of my Athens Course, where some were architects, some designers, some engineers, produced a very good base of amazingly built models of the interiors of emblematic modern houses tutored by the renowned professor of Interior Architecture Gianni Ottolini. In the website one can read a small description of each project and see some photos of the models and, in some cases, drawings.

These models are examples of perfection and patience that an architect should always work to achieve in order to better communicate his projects. Please note that the models were built in an average time of 2/3 months in the 90’s by students of Professor Ottolini.

About the Pritzker 2014

Who deserves it: either Mr. John Pawson, David Chipperfield or Alberto Campo Baeza. However today’s architecture is worried with the wow factor so probably Steven Holl will win or other “big” office.
